Ever since Gruden left the broadcast booth to return to coaching, the Monday Night Football broadcast has gone down significantly. These announcers and analysts are clearly not as qualified to cover these games, and have tainted what was a great television program. Joe Tessitore, Jason Witten, and Booger McFarland all need to be replaced. And fast.
Monday Night Football Broadcasters: A Disaster
Joe Tessitore
Joe Tessitore swapped with former play by play announcer Sean McDonough to broadcast MNF from his original role in college football. Ever since Mike Tirico left for NBC, the play by play has been boring and bland compared to Tirico. The lack of enthusiasm in the voice and the lack of pitch change after exciting plays takes away from the play. One of the reasons MNF was my favorite broadcast was because of the chemistry between Tirico and Gruden, I understand this team has not had the time to create chemistry, however, I believe some duos are meant to be.
Jason Witten
Jason Witten is one of the greatest tight ends to ever play. He is a legend for the Dallas Cowboys and is easily a first ballot hall of famer. I have nothing but respect for him as a player and person, however, I can’t say the same as an analyst. He’s new to the job but I believe a more engaging and outgoing personality is needed like Deion Sanders or Ray Lewis. Just because you are a former player does not mean you will be a great analyst. He is a legend on the field, but not in the booth.
Booger McFarland
Booger McFarland is a disgrace. He continually gives false information leading to a lack of expertise. Humans make mistakes, but to make them as many times as he does questions his ability and preparation. His remarks are not original and do not add anything interesting to the broadcast. I am not sure why he was chosen, he does not contribute any analysis. This is one of the few broadcasts with two analysts, but the analysis seems to lack compared to their peers.
Make Mondays Great Again
The NFL has enough problems, this one seems like an easy fix. Instead of pulling random people into the booth bring in a group who have worked together and developed chemistry. Tirico and Gruden had by far the best chemistry and I miss their presence. I hope a change can come, or else the quality of NFL broadcasting will begin an unfortunate decline.
