Here are the National League batting average leaders at the end of the first half of the Major League baseball season.
1 Scooter Gennett, CIN – .326 AVG
Gennett is enjoying another big year, after his breakout 2017 season. He has been one of the lone bright spots on the Reds. Gennett figures to be a piece in the Cincy lineup for years to come.
2 Nick Markakis, ATL – .323 AVG
Markakis is having a career year with the Bravos. He received the start in his first career All Star game appearance. Markakis figures to be a key piece in Atlanta’s playoff push.
3 Albert Almora Jr, CHC – .319 AVG
The 24-year old outfielder is having a huge year in his third year in the league. Almora has only improved as he has received more big league experience. He is just one hit shy of setting a new career high.
4 Freddie Freeman, ATL – .315 AVG
Freddie Freeman is putting up MVP-type numbers again. He is a machine, and hits the ball to all fields. Freeman also doesn’t care about match-ups, as he destroys both lefties and righties.
5 Eugenio Suarez, CIN – .312 AVG
In his fifth year in the league, Suarez has finally shown his full potential. He has always had the power, but now he is combining it with the average as well. Suarez is just 26, and is looking like he is only going to get better.
6 Nolan Arenado, COL – .312 AVG
Nolan Arenado has always put up MVP numbers. This may be the year he finally takes the trophy home with him.
7 Matt Kemp, LAD – .310 AVG
Matt Kemp was shipped home to LA this offseason, and has since revitalized his career. The 33-year old has shown that he can still get it done with both power and contact.
8 Corey Dickerson, PIT – .306 AVG
Dickerson has been a huge pickup for the Pirates. Giving up virtually nothing for a 29-year old .306 hitter? Sign me up!
9 Jesus Aguilar, MIL – .298 AVG
Aguilar is having a career year at the plate. Not only has his power reached its full potential, but he has also hit for average.
10 Gerardo Parra, COL – .297 AVG
Gerardo Parra has always been an on-base, contact type of guy. He is continuing that this year, and it certainly helps that he is playing at Coors Field.
