5 Quarterbacks Redefining the Future of the NFL

We all know that the QB is the cornerstone of all NFL teams. They are the athletes who take charge, dictate the plays, and ultimately get the ball where it’s needed. With this in mind, and with the 2024-25 NFL season halfway finished, I want to look at this prestigious position and check which QBs are currently shining and impacting the game.

We’ve already had plenty of games to assess the performance of the QBs, with most teams playing more than 12 matches. So, below, I’ve selected five QBs redefining the NFL based on current performance, historical accolades, and what they could accomplish in the future – enjoy!

1. Patrick Mahomes

  • Age: 29
  • Height: 6ft2
  • Weight: 225lbs.
  • NFL Draft: 2017, round 1, 10th pick
  • Team: Kansas City Chiefs
  • Pro Bowl Appearances: 6
  • All-Pro Teams: 3
  • Regular Season MVPs: 2
  • Super Bowl Championships: 3
  • Super Bowl MVPs: 3

Mahomes continues to be incredible, without posting incredible numbers. He just knows how to command the offense and is amazing at improvising on the fly to get the Chiefs what they need. He is also the main reason why the Chiefs went on their epic nine-game winning streak and still have the best record in the league.

Could we see the 2024-25 mark Mahomes’ fourth Super Bowl win and fourth Super Bowl MVP? It’s entirely plausible with the team the Kansas City Chiefs have.

2. Lamar Jackson

  • Age: 27
  • Height: 6ft2
  • Weight: 205lbs.
  • NFL Draft: 2018, round 1, 32nd pick
  • Team: Baltimore Ravens
  • Pro Bowl Appearances: 3
  • All-Pro Teams: 2
  • Regular Season MVPs: 2
  • Super Bowl Championships: 0
  • Super Bowl MVPs: 0

I could have easily placed Lamar Jackson at the number one spot as he will most likely win his third regular season MVP this year if he continues his impeccable form. It’s essentially between him and Mahomes for the title of the best NFL QB, and his talent is undeniable.

At 27, Jackson is in his prime and has plenty of years left at the top, and I start to wonder if he could equal or beat Peyton Manning’s record of five regular season MVPs, but perhaps I’m getting ahead of myself. Regardless, we all know his incredible passing skills and the talent he has.

3. Josh Allen

  • Age: 28
  • Height: 6ft5
  • Weight: 237lbs.
  • NFL Draft: 2018, round 1, 7th pick.
  • Team: Buffalo Bills
  • Pro Bowl Appearances: 2
  • All-Pro Teams: 1
  • Regular Season MVPs: 0
  • Super Bowl Championships: 0
  • Super Bowl MVPs: 0

Josh Allen is just consistent for the Bills, and he is a major reason why they sit at the top of the AFC East Division and have one of the best records in the league behind the Chiefs. He might not be the flashiest player but you can guarantee that he is going to get you steady yards and consistent first downs, which are often preferable.

I expect his form this season to see him make a return to the Pro Bowl as he hasn’t been selected since 2022. Hopefully, he can also add to his single All-Pro selection which came in 2020.

4. Joe Burrow

  • Age: 27
  • Height: 6ft4
  • Weight: 215lbs.
  • NFL Draft: 2020, round 1, 1st pick
  • Team: Cincinnati Bengals
  • Pro Bowl Appearances: 1
  • All-Pro Teams: 0
  • Regular Season MVPs: 0
  • Super Bowl Championships: 0
  • Super Bowl MVPs: 0

I’m so pleased that Burrows has managed to make a comeback, and I believe he has the potential to go further. We all know how he suffered that horrific ACL and MCL tear in his left knee, plus other damage. This effectively ended his rookie season and we didn’t get to see him play until the following year.

Since then, he has won the 2021 Comeback Award and made his first Pro Bowl appearance in 2022. He isn’t currently on the injury report, but he only recovered for the 2024-25 season after wrist surgery. If he manages to avoid any future injuries, he has so much potential. I expect him to make an All-Pro team shortly too, with the Bengals.

5. Jayden Daniels

  • Age: 23
  • Height: 6ft4
  • Weight: 210lbs.
  • NFL Draft: 2024, round 1, 2nd pick
  • Team: Washington Commanders
  • Pro Bowl Appearances: 0
  • All-Pro Teams: 0
  • Regular Season MVPs: 0
  • Super Bowl Championships: 0
  • Super Bowl MVPs: 0

My last pick is a rookie who I think has the potential to be an all-time great. Caleb Williams was obviously the first pick in the 2024 draft, and he is performing amazingly and breaking records, but I wanted to shine the spotlight on the second pick – Jayden Daniels.

He has already been named NFC Offensive Player of the Week and Offensive Rookie of the Month, and at the time of writing this, he is one of the top runners for the NFL MVP award. Remember that this is all in his rookie season – I envision Daniels being legendary!

Will Any Of These Quarterbacks Go Down As All-Time Greats?

One thing’s for sure, any of these QBs will prove reliable picks for daily fantasy teams or for your sports betting picks. Whether you’re picking their team to win on the money line, or looking for individual player props, you can’t go wrong with these amazing quarterbacks. I always recommend you look at the available deposit methods on askgamblers.com/sports-betting/deposit-methods for your favorite sportsbook to make sure you can top up your account.

Only time will tell if any of these quarterbacks will go down as all-time greats or make the NFL Hall of Fame, but I believe that Mahomes is a dead-cert and many already consider him one of the greatest to do it. Lamar Jackson certainly has incredible pedigree, and he’s actually been outperforming and is ranked higher than Mahomes so far during the NFL 2024-25 season,

Other names that could be worthy of mention include Aaron Rodgers, C.J. Stroud, Brock Purdy and Matthew Stafford, but I feel those in the list I’ve picked are either more impactful, or in the case of Jayden Daniels, have the potential to make more of a difference.
