2025 NFL MVP race

2025 NFL MVP Race: Stafford Pulling Away, Josh Allen Surging

With three games left to play in the season, the NFL MVP Race seems to be a three-man race with Josh Allen, Matthew Stafford, and Drake Maye.

Three-Man 2025 NFL MVP Race

3. QB Josh Allen, Buffalo Bills

Stats through week 15; 3,276 passing yards (8th); 25 PTDs (4th); 535 rush yards; 12 RTDs; Team Record: 10-4

Allen played a strong game in week 15 to knock off the New England Patriots, who were the current No. 1 seed in the AFC at the time both played. Allen had a total of 241 yards and three touchdowns. Last week, Allen led a Bills comeback against the Cincinnati Bengals, where he had four touchdowns, including a 40-yard run, which is a Buffalo Bills team record.

A crazy stat in favor of Allen’s MVP candidacy is that the Bills are 4-1 when they allow 30 points or more; the rest of the NFL is 10-98-2. Allen is also statistically the best quarterback in the second half of games this season.

Josh Allen’s 2025 second-half stats

2,332 total yards (1st)

24 Total Touchdowns (1st)

9.0 Yards per pass (1st)

2. QB Drake Maye, New England Patriots

2025 stats through week 15; 3,567 passing yards (5th); 23 PTDs (T-5th); 362 rushing yards; 2RTDs; Team Record: 11-3

Even though the Patriots lost a game where they were up 21-0, Maye still played a solid game, and the loss didn’t completely knock him out of playoff contention. Maye only passed for 155 yards, but he rushed for 43 yards and two touchdowns.

Maye has consistently been in the top two odds for MVP for several weeks now. Even though he lost to Josh Allen and the Bills, Maye and the Patriots still remain first in the division and are the current No. 2 seed in the AFC, with a chance to solidify the No. 1 seed still.

In the next three games, Maye and the Patriots will face the Ravens and Jets, and will finish the season with the Dolphins. The showdown against the Ravens will be in primetime on Sunday Night Football if Maye can have a big showing in primetime, it could potentially push him ahead of Stafford in the MVP race and potentially still hold off Allen.

Even though Allen and the Bills got the best of Maye and the Patriots on Sunday, they are tied 1-1 in the two matchups they played this season.

1. QB Matthew Stafford, Los Angeles Rams

2025 stats through week 15; 3,722 passing yards (2nd); 37 PTDs (1st); Team Record: 11-3

Matthew Stafford continues to play like the best quarterback in football this season. The Rams are the current top seed in the NFC, and a significant part of that has been the outstanding performance of Stafford this season. Currently, multiple sportsbooks have the Rams’ quarterback as the betting MVP favorite and the Rams as the betting favorite for the Super Bowl.

Against the Lions in week 15, Stafford had 368 yards and two touchdowns. He leads the NFL in passing touchdowns with 37, which is eight more than second place. He is also second in passing yards. Stafford also holds the record for most passing touchdowns without an interception, with 28, which he accomplished this season. He has currently gone eight straight games with two-plus passing touchdowns.

Stafford will get an opportunity to possibly close the MVP conversation if he plays well in a big matchup against the Seattle Seahawks, who are one of the best teams in the NFL.

Simply put, the MVP is Stafford’s to lose as we near the end of the season. As long as he doesn’t have any disastrous performances in his final three games, he will take home the award in his 17th season.
