3 Free Agency Landing Spots For Kyle Lowry

The heart and soul of the Toronto Raptors is set to become a free agent this summer, and he’ll certainly be on the top of many team’s priority lists. There’s a lot of viable free agency landing spots for Kyle Lowry, but these three teams will be in the hottest pursuit of the veteran point guard.

Chicago Bulls

The Bulls made a big splash at the deadline this year, trading for star center Nikola Vucevic in an attempt to push them into the playoffs. Ultimately that didn’t pan out, but this acquisition does set them up for playoff aspirations over the next few seasons. The potential landing spots for Kyle Lowry aren’t going to be perfect, but I think Chicago is as close as you’re going to get.

With a veteran point guard like Kyle Lowry on the market come this summer, I think Chicago will be doing everything they can to land the former Raptor. Coby White has developed into a fantastic young player, but the Bulls may be looking to bring in a more established facilitator to help with both Zach Lavine and Vucevic’s production. White leans more on scoring, so it may be a good move to send him to the bench, keep him up with starter-level minutes, and have Lowry maintain that pass-first style to start games.

The Bulls certainly see the playoffs in their near future and the move for Vucevic has given them some building blocks coming into this offseason. Lowry will be one of many pass-first points on the market this year, but he’s got more experience and poise than all of the others. It’s exactly what the Bulls need and that’s why I think they are one of the more likely landing spots for Kyle Lowry. A pinnacle VIP code can give you a boost if you are looking to play the odds on him landing in Chicago.

Los Angeles Clippers

A lot has to be done for Lowry to land in LA, but I think the Clippers will be very active this offseason. Depending on what happens this season, the Clippers could disappoint two seasons in a row, with minimal time to change it before Kawhi Leonard moves on (potentially). Kyle Lowry completes the big three at a minimal cost.

No matter where they finish, the Clippers are still looking for a pass-first guard to help reestablish their tandem of Paul George and Kawhi Leonard. The short-term solution came at the deadline with Rajon Rondo, but Rondo is on the back-end of his career and the Clippers are certainly looking to grab another scoring option for next season as well. It seems as if Lowry is the perfect fit.

Lowry will probably be in the asking range of $18-24 million per year, but I’d like to think he’d take a discount to get a shot at a title. If the Clippers can move some contracts around (ie. Patrick Beverley and Marcus Morris), LA looks like the perfect destination for an aging point guard who still has some left in the tank. There are a ton of potential landing spots for Kyle Lowry, but the Clippers are certainly at the top of that list.

New Orleans Pelicans

The Pelicans have developed rather quickly after the acquisition of Brandon Ingram and selection of Zion Williamson, but have struggled to maintain relevance in a tough Western Conference.

Still, New Orleans has built a solid roster over the past few years and it feels like they are just a couple of moves away from becoming true playoff contenders.

Lonzo Ball is set to become a RFA, but there is certainly some speculation he may be on his way out. I’d like to think both Ball and Lowry will be at similar contract values, and in my opinion, the Pelicans need some more veteran leadership to really push for a playoff spot in the west.

I think the Pelicans are more of a long shot to sign Lowry, simply because I think he’s looking for a more “ready” team to end his career with. However, Lowry would certainly make the Pelicans a team to watch next season and if the Pelicans can get the cap room, I don’t see why New Orleans wouldn’t take a shot at him. I wouldn’t say they are one of the more likely landing spots for Kyle Lowry, but they are certainly a team to keep an eye on.
