2018 Heisman Trophy Hopefuls – Jake Fromm, Georgia

The Heisman Trophy is the most coveted award in all of college football, perhaps in all of college sports. It certainly has the most prestige to it, the most familiarity. In this ten part mini-series, I am going to introduce you to the top ten Heisman Hopefuls in America so that you can get familiar with them just in time for spring football.

Quarterback Jake Fromm, Georgia

One side of Jake Fromm is that lovable farm boy from South Georgia who goes fishing and hunting every chance he gets. The other side of Jake Fromm is a mature, decisive and knowledgeable football player who is the biggest competitor you have ever met in your life. He was featured on Go90’s season one of their football series QB1: Beyond The Lights.

Fromm got the opportunity of a lifetime midway through the first quarter of Georgia’s opening game against Appalachian State when starting quarterback Jacob Eason left the game with an ankle injury. Fromm never surrendered the starting job. Looking like a poised, fresh young professional, Fromm led the Georgia offence to the National Championship game as a freshman.

What tools does Fromm possess that puts him in the running for the Heisman?

Quarterback Smarts

Fromm is a very intelligent football player. Most freshman go through growing pains from making decisions against certain coverages and blitzes they have never seen before. Even though Fromm enters his sophomore season, there isn’t much he has never seen. He is a filmaholic, reminding you of a young Peyton Manning. He preps for games very well and has a football IQ through the roof for someone his age.

Not only is he smart, but he manages the game and makes good decisions. Very rarely will you see Fromm stare down a receiver, or pick the wrong lane to throw into.

Arm Strength

Fromm has a cannon for an arm. While his deep ball still needs to be more accurate, Fromm has time to develop that part of his game. His arm strength is elite level. Combine that with his smarts and football IQ, and Fromm has two years to develop into a very good professional prospect.

Leadership traits

Fromm is a natural leader. He’s the guy that everyone likes and commands a locker room from the moment he walks in. He holds his teammates accountable and coaches them.

Because of his maturity for his age, Fromm has an extra level that goes to this leadership. If he was a goofball, acted more like his age, Fromm wouldn’t have the commanding presence that he has. He is a very hard worker, a grinder, and knows that natural talent can only get you so far. There isn’t very much not to like about this kid.

Fromm has the team around him that could ultimately win him college football’s highest award. Watch out America; Jake Fromm is hunting for wins and fishing for a trophy.
