With the traded deadline less than a month away, there are many teams that have distinguished themselves as clear contenders for the 2018 season. Some of these teams are just a few pieces away from taking over. Here are some trade deadline buyers for the 2018 MLB trading deadline.
New York Yankees
Need: Starting Pitching
Top Options: RHP Jacob DeGrom, LHP Cole Hamels, & LHP J.A. Happ
The Yankees offense is stacked from the top of the lineup to the bottom. The one thing that is holding this team back is their starting pithing. If they were to go out and acquire a starter, they will easily be the favorite for the World Series. New York will certainly acquire an upgrade over Sonny Gray and CC Sabathia. It is just a matter of which starter they will acquire, and how much they will pay.
Philadelphia Phillies
Need: Third Base
Top Options: 3B Manny Machado, 3B Mike Moustakas, & 3B Adrian Beltre
The Phillies are going all-in for 2018. They are a young and hungry team, in for a tough race in the NL East. They started the year with Maikel Franco as the starter at the hot corner. In what has been a disappointing year for him, the team is ready to give up on Franco. The Phillies may have enough talent in their farm system to go out and acquire Manny Machado from the Orioles. No matter who they acquire, the Phillies are certainly going to pick-up another veteran bat.
Los Angeles Dodgers
Need: Relief Pitching
Top Options: RHP Kyle Barraclough, RHP Zach Britton, & LHP Brad Hand
The Dodgers bullpen has struggled at times in 2018. When they struggled earlier this year, it was in large part thanks to their inconsistent bullpen. Besides closer Kenley Jansen, the numbers have not been good. The marlins seem like the perfect dance partner, as they have three power arms in Barraclough, Adam Conley, and Drew Steckenrider. No matter who it is, the Dodgers are going to need to acquire relievers at the trade deadline.
