We take a look at Top Pitching Match-ups for the last games of the opening week of the 2017 Major League Baseball season.

MLB Top Pitching Match-Ups 4/9

NYM Noah Syndergaard vs MIA Edinson Volquez

Syndergaard is easily one of the best pitchers in the game, so anytime he pitches it is a must-watch event. Volquez has had success against the Mets in the past. In his first start of 2017, he tossed five scoreless innings.

ATL Julio Teheran vs PIT Gerrit Cole

Teheran had a phenomenal 2017 debut in New York, throwing six scoreless. He showed confidence in both his fastball and off-sspeed stuff. Cole got knocked around by the Red Sox in his first career Opening Day start. However, in his career at home, he has a 22-14 record with a 3.32 ERA.

CHI Jake Arrieta vs MIL Zach Davies

Arrieta was in control in his first start of 2017. He allowed an unearned run and struck out six over six innings. Davies on the other hand, had command issues in his first start of the season. However, he has had success against the Cubs before as he threw six scoreless innings of two hit ball against them last September.

LAD Kenta Maeda vs COL Tyler Anderson

Maeda only threw five innings in his last start and allowed three runs on six hits. The Dodgers are going to need a little more from Maeda on Sunday. Tyler Anderson gave up five runs in 5.2 innings but still earned the win and struck out eight. He will return to Coors Field where he has a 5-2 record with a 3.00 ERA in 12 starts.

SEA Hisashi Iwakuma vs LAA Matt Shoemaker

Iwakuma tossed a strong opener in Houston earlier this week. The 36-year old threw six innings and allowed two runs on four hits. Shoemaker lasted only five innings in his opening start of the 2017 season. He allowed two runs on four hits and struck out four.
